Description
- The largest single source, medical testing lab in the U.S.

Scope
- Provided full structural engineering and construction administration services
Schedule
- Completed the design/bid/build process for core and shell in 15 months
Collaboration
- Identified key issues early in the project to achieve project goals
- Collaborated with design team and contractors on all key decisions
- Utilized steel framing rather than concrete to meet project schedule and budget
- Phased design packages (e.g. primary steel, foundations, misc steel, etc.) to meet project schedule
Enhancements
- State-of-the-art concentric braced frame
- Increased lateral force resistance (about 30% larger than the 1998 California Building Code, Title 24 for hospitals)
- Floor framing designed to minimize vibration effects on sensitive equipment (e.g. microscopes)
Results
- Economical structural steel with upgrades (about 25% less than industry average)
- Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) award for "Best Use of Conventional Technologies in Conventional Construction" 2005
